Print Framing Guide

Materials you will need:

  1. Fine art print
  2. Picture frame
  3. Mat board (optional)
  4. Acid-free archival tape
  5. Mounting board or foam core
  6. Glass or acrylic sheet
  7. Backing board
  8. Hanging hardware (nails, hooks, wire)

Step 1: Prepare your workspace

Choose a comfy and well-lit spot to work on framing your beautiful fine art print. Make sure the area is tidy and free from any sneaky dust or debris that could harm your artwork.

Step 2: Determine the Frame Size

Look for a picture frame that matches or complements your print's dimensions and style. Make sure the frame has enough depth to accommodate the print's thickness, along with any other materials you plan to use.

Step 3: Optional: Use a mat board

If you prefer to use a mat board, cut it to the appropriate size. The mat board adds a border around the print, providing visual separation between the artwork and the frame. It also helps to prevent the print from touching the glass directly, allowing for proper airflow and reducing the risk of damage. If you use a mat board, factor this into your frame size.

Step 4: Secure the print to the mounting board

Place your print on a clean and stable surface, facing up. If you're skipping the mat board, that's okay too! You can mount your print directly onto a sturdy mounting board or foam core. Line up the print with the board and use acid-free archival tape to secure it in place. Remember to tape the backside of the print, so it stays nice and tidy.

Step 5: Assemble the frame

Now it's time to assemble the frame. Take off the backing board, glass, or acrylic sheet from the picture frame. If you're using a mat board, slide it inside the frame. Carefully position your mounted print inside the frame, making sure it's centered and straight. If needed, use small pieces of archival tape to keep the print in place on the backing board.

Step 6: Add the glass or acrylic sheet

Take a moment to clean the glass or acrylic sheet. Wipe away any fingerprints or smudges, so your artwork shines through crystal clear. Lay the sheet over the print and gently insert it into the frame. Double-check that everything is aligned and the sheet isn't touching the surface of the print. This protective layer will guard your artwork against dust, moisture, and other potential harm.

Step 7: Secure the frame

Gently press down the clips or tabs on the back of the frame to hold the contents in place. Ensure that everything is secure and tightly held together. If the frame has a backing board, attach it to the frame using appropriate fasteners or clips.

Step 8: Inspect and clean

Check the front and back of the framed print for any dust particles or smudges. Use a clean and lint-free cloth to remove any debris carefully. Avoid using cleaning solutions directly on the print or glass/acrylic sheet. If needed, you can use compressed air to blow away any stubborn dust particles.

Step 9: Attach hanging hardware

Flip the framed print and attach hanging hardware to the back of the frame. Depending on the frame and its weight, you can use picture wire, D-rings, or sawtooth hangers. Ensure that the hanging hardware is securely fastened to the frame, taking into account the weight of the artwork.

Step 10: Display and enjoy

Now it's time to find the perfect spot to display your framed fine art print. Consider factors like lighting, humidity, and temperature to ensure your artwork stays in top shape. Hang it securely on the wall using appropriate hooks or nails. Stand back, admire your creation, and let it bring joy to your space!

Remember to handle the artwork with clean hands and avoid touching the surface directly. Hope you enjoy!!
